Richard Carpenter

Dr. Richard L. Carpenter, Jr., is a Senior V.P. with Weather Decision Technologies, Inc., in Norman, OK. He joined WDT in 2000 as a founding employee and currently directs WDT’s Renewable Energy Laboratory. His expertise is in the areas of numerical weather prediction, wind energy forecasting, high-performance computing, and related system development.

Dr. Carpenter received a B.S. from the University of California, Davis, in 1985, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 1988 and 1994, respectively. Prior to joining WDT, he was a senior research scientist with the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS) at OU. He is a Certified Consulting Meteorologist (American Meteorological Society) and has taught university-level courses in meteorology. He enjoys storm chasing and amateur geology.
