Mario Garcia-Sanz

Mario Garcia-Sanz is a Professor at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Ohio, the Inaugural Milton and Tamar Maltz Professor in Energy Innovation and Director of the Wind Energy and Control Systems Center at CWRU. A former Professor at the Public University of Navarra, Spain, and Senior Advisor for the President of the MTorres Group, he held visiting professorships at the Control Systems Centre, UMIST (UK, 1995); at Oxford University (UK, 1996); at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory NASA-JPL (California, 2004); at the European Space Agency ESA-ESTEC (The Netherlands, 2008); and at Case Western Reserve University (Ohio, 2009). He was awarded the IEE Heaviside Prize (UK) in 1995, holds about 20 industrial patents, served as principal investigator of more than 35 granted research projects for industry and space agencies, and is author of more than 130 papers and several books. Projects have included large multi-megawatt variable-speed multipole wind turbines design and control, dynamic control of wind farm grid interaction, and off-shore wind turbines for extreme weather conditions. Dr. Garcia-Sanz served as NATO/RTO Lecture Series Director, is a member of the IFAC Technical Committees on Robust Control and on Aerospace Control, a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Aerospace, and Subject Editor of the International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control. Professor Garcia-Sanz's main research interest focuses on bridging the gap between fundamental and applied research in advanced control and systems engineering, with special emphasis in Energy Innovation, Wind Energy, Space, Environmental and Industrial Applications.
