Nesrin Sarigul-Klijn, PhD.

Dr. Nesrin Sarigul-Klijn is a Full Professor of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and the Founding Director of Space Engineering Research and Graduate Program (SpaceED) at the University of California Davis. She is also a member faculty in Graduate Groups of the Biomedical Engineering, and the Electrical and Computer Engineering. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 1984. She was an Assistant Professor of Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering at the Ohio State University; and a faculty fellow at NASA Glenn in Advanced Composites & Propulsion Structures research until 89. Professor Sarigul-Klijn has many years of research and teaching experience in theoretical, computational, and experimental research in the fields of Dynamics and Control including fluid-structure interactions, acoustics, aeroelasticity, flutter; Space Transportation Vehicle Design &Air Launching Methods; Trajectory Optimization and Flight Testing at sub&full scales; Finite Element Methods, transfinite elements; spine biomechanics, bioastronautics; and more recently new renewable power generation methods based on the application of the flutter principle to energy extraction. In addition to her engineering academic degrees, she is an instrument rated commercial pilot with flight experience in 34 different types of aircraft and has completed the FAA Wings level IV proficiency award program. She published over 100 reviewed technical papers and directed thesis and doctoral dissertation research of 41 graduate students. She was the technical co-chair of the AIAA 2006 Joint Propulsion Conference. She is a member of ASME, SAE, IEEE and Associate Fellow of AIAA. She delivered two invited keynote technical lectures in 2008.
