Scott McLaughlin
Vice President, Meteorological Systems Group - DeTect, Inc
Scott McLaughlin is VP and chief engineer of DeTect’s Meteorological Systems Group, located in Longmont, Colorado. He has 20+ years experience in wind profiling radars as well as other meteorological sensing systems. He has worked for the U.S. Army and NOAA as a research/design engineer, and for 3 different manufacturers of radar and sodar equipment. His experience includes atmospheric research, radar system design, signal processing, antenna design, programming, manufacturing, and field measurement campaigns. His interests center on optimizing radar design for higher quality data, high reliability, simplified use, and expanding applications such as wind energy and even bird and insect studies.
Mr. McLaughlin now manages a skilled team of scientists, engineers, programmers and technicians for design and production of radar wind profilers (boundary layer through stratosphere). The DeTect team was recently awarded production for the Next Generation NOAA Profiler Network (NGNPN), which entails supplying 30 large systems to the National Weather Service. Scott McLaughlin graduated with a BSEE from New Mexico State University. Personal interests include family, music, hiking and camping.
